Our cattle are happy cattle

Josh Skelton, Fifth-generation Farmer and Cow Whisperer

Our Philosophy

Know where your beef comes from

All the beef we sell comes from our six-generation, calf-to-butcher family farming operation in the shortgrass prairies and cropland near Wauneta, NE.

Support Nebraska Small Business

Widely acknowledged as “The Beef State,” Nebraska is home to the finest beef cattle in the world. While much of this reputation centers around the state’s corn production and its related commercial feedlot industry, our sixth-generation family farming operation is working to extend that reputation to the forage-fed free-range market. From family members observing and caring for our animals year-round to our small-town processor, start to finish you can trust that you are part of the effort to reinvest in rural Nebraska communities.

All natural, pasture-raised

Our beef offerings are born and grazed across our family farm for a minimum of 24 months, performing nature’s intended role for ruminants in breaking down pasture forages and crop residues to return nutrients to the soil, all while creating a high-quality and nutrient-dense protein product. This extended finishing time proves vital in developing more balanced ratios of omega-3 to omega-6 fat deposits, and special care is taken to ensure animals are finished with appropriate fat marbling and covering that leads to a first-rate and healthy eating experience. By simply allowing adequate time and free access to diverse forages, the overly “gamey” flavoring sometimes associated with non-grain-fed beef is avoided. NO growth hormones, NO pesticides, NO vaccines, NO antibiotics, and NO supplements or grain additives are permitted for our finishing animals, and much care is taken to ensure that our animals are, in fact, FORAGE-FINISHED.

Jesse and Raegan

Jesse and Raegan

Jesse and Raegan

Jesse and Raegan married in 2019. Their day jobs are as CPA/Investment Advisor (Jesse) and Biology Professor at Concordia University, Nebraska (Raegan). When they aren't living out their career vocations, they are maintaining the family farm operations!

Uncle "Joshy"

Jesse and Raegan

Josh is the eldest son of James and Lana Skelton, and Jesse's older brother. He is our cow whisperer. When he's not moving cattle, he's probably out building fence for them. Josh now farms full time after spending over 18 years as a land surveyor. He also volunteers as a local EMT with Lana!

Mr. Jackson

Jackson is the youngest Skelton family farm member, marking the sixth generation. He is Jesse and Raegan's son, turned THREE in March 2026, and is ALL BOY: He loves playing in the dirt, checking cows, and driving FAST on anything with wheels. He's also the cutest little farm hand you'll ever see.

Papa and Gramma

James and Lana Skelton are the parents of Josh, Jesse, and their younger sister Kelsie. We wouldn't have a farm without them continuing the family legacy! Lana continues to volunteer as a local EMT (for over 35 years now!), and it's only thanks to her farm cooking that we get the fuel we need!
